Wellspring News
First time at Wellspring?
Thank you for visiting us this morning. Please stop by the Guest Reception and we would love to tell you more about Wellspring and our Gospel Communities. If you have any questions following your visit or would like more information, please email us at info@wspring.org.
Gospel Train
Pray for Our Children, Families & Teachers: Our vision for Gospel Train is to instruct children in the Gospel of Jesus Christ through Bible-based curriculum, as we come alongside parents in the discipleship of our children. Please pray that parents and teachers would be faithful in keeping the Christ and the Gospel central to all that we do. And for the hearts of our children to be softened and open to the message of Christ.
Theme for 2025-26: Our theme for the year is “God’s Word is Sure” (Isaiah 55:10-11). We covet your prayers that God’s Word would take center stage in our lives and that of the next generation.
GT Teachers’ Meeting: Our next meeting will be Sunday, 2/8 at 10:15a for the PS to 4th Grade Teachers. (The 5th Grade Teachers will meet on 2/22 at 10:15a.) Please pray for our GT teachers that they would be faithful in sharing God’s Word with the children and grow in faith this year.
1st & 2nd Grade Class: In the spring quarter, the students will start a new curriculum called The ABCs of God; having a full-text Bible will be helpful as children refer to and read from the Bible during class time.
The Biggest Story Holy Bible: We have some extra copies if you'd like to purchase one for your child. (Cost: $19.19) This full text Bible contains intros to each Book of the Bible and Digging Deeper sections throughout. Includes QR codes for the animated videos, along with application and seeing the thread of Jesus and redemption throughout the entire Bible. Please email Linda if you are interested.

ServeWell
We are excited to welcome Toby Weiss, Executive Director of Hope680, on Sunday (1/25) to talk about the work and mission of this ministry that serves and shares the gospel with the homeless population along the 680 corridor.
Looking ahead, March is Serve Month at Wellspring! Consider gathering some friends and getting out and sharing the abundant Christ's love we have at our church with others. If you need some ideas of how to get involved in our community, here are a few suggestions of where to look --
Hope680 -- ask Neil Kwon (nskwon@gmail.com)
FirstPres Hayward -- ask Hillary Wong (hillaryst@hotmail.com) or Kelly Kwon (coffeekly@gmail.com)
South Hayward Parish -- ask Jen Huang (jenloveorange@gmail.com)
Project Peace -- ask Margaret Chiang (margaretchiang@wspring.org)
Finally, if you or someone you know has been blessed by being a part of God's plan to love our neighbors, please refer them to me (margaretchiang@wspring.org)! We are looking to highlight stories of outreach throughout March, to encourage one another and marvel at His love for the marginalized.
Prayer and Fasting Week, 1/26-1/30
In Romans 15:30, Paul tells the church in Rome: "I appeal to you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God on my behalf." John MacArthur, on commenting on this verse, writes:
----
This word on prayer, "that you sunagōnizomai." Agōnizomai would be enough. That means to agonize together in a struggle. To add sun to the front of it intensifies it. "That you intensely struggle together with me in your prayers to God for me."
Now he realizes that ministry in the will of God is dependent on prayer. That is an essential element. The word agōnizomai or sunagōnizomai is a word taken from gymnastics. It's taken from athletics. It is a gymnastic term meaning “to agonize.” It could be translated "to fight." It takes tremendous exertion and energy and maximum effort to fulfill the significance of this word, a very strong term. In fact it's translated in John 18:36 "fight." Jesus said, "My servants would fight if My kingdom was of this world." It is a word of great intensity.
Prayer, beloved, is a battle. And I say this from time to time as we come to passages like this but I want to remind you of it. Prayer is a battle. I think sometimes we don't understand that because the battle isn't where we can see it. We've been talking, haven't we, in 1 Timothy, about the spiritual battle. And I hope we've learned some things. Prayer is a war waged against the forces of evil. In fact, Isaiah 64:7 speaks of, quote: "Arousing oneself to take hold of God in prayer." That's the idea of the Hebrew terminology in Isaiah 64:7, arousing one’s self to take hold of God. And you remember, no doubt, reading Genesis 32:24 to 30 where it says that Jacob wrestled with the Lord and he wouldn't let go of the Lord until he was what? He was blessed. In Colossians 2:1 Paul calls prayer great conflict. He sees it as great conflict. It is not an easy thing, it is a conflict. He says, "I would that you knew what great conflict I have for you." What is he talking about in writing to the Colossians? I'm engaged in a battle, a prayer battle over your spiritual situation. And in 4:12 of Colossians, as I mentioned earlier, Epaphras, that wonderful man of prayer, is said to be always laboring fervently for you in prayer that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. Prayer is a battle, an agonizing experience.
We NEED each other's prayers because it is a battle, a war that we wage against the Enemy. And he wants nothing more than to keep us depending upon our own strength and turning away from the one who strengthens us with His power.
----
ALSO, fasting is a reminder that this world is not our home. We long for the day when we are with our Savior when there will be no more fasting, only feasting. But until then, fasting teaches us that the many distractions of our world continue to keep us occupied and desensitized to the Spirit’s work in our lives. And so we fast food, entertainments, drink, phones, games, whatever it is that we love more than anything or anyone else. So join us as we fast together, whether it is for one meal or one week’s of meals. Let’s hunger for the Lord together.
FINALLY, if you have any prayer requests, any at all, that you would like prayed over, please post them here and know that you will be prayed over. There is no request too small or too great that will not be prayed over. Please post any prayer requests you have on our WhatsApp prayer wall and we will collate them in our prayer guide that we will send out next week.
Join us this week of fasting and prayer as we come together to pray all kinds of prayer (Ephesians 6:1). We will be meeting at the church from 8-9PM Monday through Thursday and then 8-9:30PM on Friday for a special night of prayer and worship.

Gospel Spring 2026
Schedule Updated, as of 2026-01-15.
One of Wellspring Church's values is intentional discipleship with Jesus' gospel. A season of GospelWell provides the foundation and engine for discipleship, of growing in Christ. Moreover, the Gospel in GospelWell needs to be both amplified and its foundations known. GospelSpring reveals the roots from where gospel truths emerge and the fruit of the gospel when applied.
We gather on Tuesday evening from 7:30pm-9:30 for teaching and discussion. See attached schedule. So, if you are signing up for GospelSpring, you will be choosing one course of "Reading the Bible with Jesus" (5 Tuesdays) and one course of "Reformed Theology" (4 Tuesdays). For "Reading the Bible with Jesus" the cohort/group is generally limited to 6 participants.
For further explanation of GospelSpring including why these two courses please listen to the GospelWell podcast (Episode 3 and Episode 5).
The prerequisite for taking GospelSpring is GospelWell.
Questions? email Fuji.
Two Courses for Spring 2026
"Reformed Theology" presents the basic system of theology we believe Scripture teaches, "the source code of gospel-centered application."
“Reading the Bible with Jesus” provides how Jesus read the Scripture as the way we ought to read and understand to get the gospel. This approach was mentioned in GospelWell, session 8, on personal worship. Interwoven into the 5 week session is the practice of personal worship throughout the week.
GospelSpring is offered once a year, in the Spring.
When registering, choose the course, leader and dates. For example, Albert might take Reformed Theology from Feb 3 to Feb 24 (Joe will be the only teacher for Reformed Theology); then “Reading the Bible with Jesus” with Michael, May 17 to April 14. Stephen registers for “Reading the Bible with Jesus” with Sam, Feb 3 to March 3; then Reformed Theology with Joe, March 17 to April 7. As you share your preference when registering, there may be a possibility of us asking you to adjust based on the numbers in each class.
Registering for GospelSpring is a commitment to participating in the two courses, "Reformed Theology" and "Reading the Bible."
High school students who have taken GospelWell can register for GospelSpring.
We are migrating from our church Forum to a WhatsApp community as a means of connection and online community. To find out what type of WhatsApp groups there are for Wellspring, contact info@wspring.org to find out more info to join our community.
Barnabas Gospel Community
New to Wellspring?
New to Wellspring? Barnabas is a gospel community to help you transition to a new church. Come out for fellowship, even enjoy a lunch on us, with others who are also transitioning to Wellspring!
This is a great way to meet other people, encourage one another in the Lord and enjoy a good meal. Any questions? Email Thomas (thomaskim@wspring.org).
Gospel Community
A new season of Gospel Communities have begun (Sept 2025 to May 2027 season).
What is a Gospel Community? As intentional discipleship feeds the gospel (as carried out in GospelWell), Christians are then called to feed one another the gospel. This is Gospel Community. Serving one another with the gospel is how the church carries out the mission of making disciples. For an explanation for this format of group ministry at Wellspring, see video here.
If registering for GC, and if you are married, and if both spouses intend to participate, BOTH persons should register individually. That is, there is no drop-down menu to add a spouse.
When registering, the encouragement is, for those who have participated in the recent season, to prayerfully consider joining another GC.
To register, use the Church Center App or online. Using the App (scroll down to "Find a Group" >> choose "Gospel Communities". Link to the apps.

NOTE WELL
THE GREAT EXCHANGE GC. We meet on the first Thursday of the month at 7pm beginning in October at the Stroud home on Yerba Buena Island. Subsequent gatherings will be in the East Bay if the YBI location proves to be an issue. We will decide on days/times for the gender based groups based on the convenience of our group.
WHEN REGISTERING
Your request will be sent to the GC Leader who will accept as long as the group size limit is not reached. If a GC is closed and no other GC fits your timeframe, please contact me (fujikim@wspring.org; 2157761010) rather than the GC Leader.
If you have questions about a particular GC that is open, feel free to email the leader (email address can be found in the Church Center app or in the email sent to the whole church on August 7). If you have questions about registration in general, please email me (fujikim@wspring.org).
ASIDES
There are two GCs that will NOT be closed: The King's Cross (20s and 30s; based on lifestage)
Barnabas (specifically for newcomers and making initial connections).
