ON COVID-19

Updated, Wednesday, March 17 2020, 2:36pm

Because of the shelter-in-place order in Contra Costa County, we will not be able to meet at the building for worship this Sunday. We will let everyone know when we can at least go back to that level of meeting. In the meantime, we will be meeting on Facebook Live for worship.

Due to the forecast of 75% chance of rain and current recommendations of the Contra Costa Health Department of limiting gatherings of over 50 people for the time being, we will be cancelling the Worship in the Park and moving to a Live Stream of our Sunday Worship. Details regarding the Live Stream will be released tomorrow. We believe the best way to serve our community in the interim is to follow public health guidelines. Of course, we are continuing to monitor all public health communications.

We are unable to use IHMS this week. We are looking into holding a Worship at the Park. We will try to give details shortly.

We have just heard back from the school district. They are not cancelling churches yet at their schools, making that the last outside group to be cancelled. As of right now, we are still on at IHMS, but of course, things can change quite quickly. We will keep you updated.

We are currently awaiting final confirmation from San Ramon Valley Unified School District given their memo as to whether IHMS is close this Sunday. Please stay tuned.

Some of you might have heard that Contra Costa County Health Department has recommended that gatherings of 50 or more people be cancelled. Alameda County Health Department has a different recommendation, with some similarities. While we understand that these are still only recommendations, we take them seriously and are continuing to monitor the situation. However, at this point, we are still planning on holding worship service this coming Sunday.

Of course, we also recognize the situation is fluid. Again, if Iron Horse Middle School is closed, we will announce alternative plans. Please stay tuned to this site as well as email and Facebook/Twitter as we will update any changes.

Also, to reiterate, if you are ill in any way, we ask for you to remain at home. We plan on doing our best to webcast the worship service. We will let you know as soon as we can if this is possible.

Updated Monday, March 9, 2020

We realize that with the epidemic continually increasing throughout the Bay Area and the world, there are a number of factors we need to consider as each day brings new updates. Please stay tuned here as we update this page to contain the latest updates regarding Wellspring's response to the virus.

We recommend that you read THIS SLIDE prepared by Thomas Kim for our members on the epidemic. Also, THIS ARTICLE discusses how we should frame this special season as Christians.

Regarding different situations that should arise regarding Sunday Worship, we are making the following recommendations to do all that we can to keep this epidemic at bay and serve our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ:

  • ILLNESS: If you are coughing, sneezing, or ill due to colds or any flu-like symptoms, we ask that you and/or your children please stay home and worship the Lord with your family.

  • PREVENTION:

    • Wash hands with soap and water, and rub for at least 20 seconds.

    • Cover your cough or sneeze with the crook of your elbow.

    • Stay home if you are sick.

    • Get your flu shot to protect against flu or symptoms similar to novel coronavirus.

    • If you have recently returned from a country with ongoing COVID-19 infections, monitor your health and follow the instructions of public health officials.

  • VULNERABLE GROUPS: Even though this is a decision left to each individual, we are asking vulnerable groups to consider staying home from worship. Our Elders are currently considering action plans to serve different members of our church who cannot attend Sunday Worship. These groups are:

    • Those who are 60 years old and older.

    • People with health conditions such as heart disease, lung disease (like asthma), diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease, and weakened immune systems.

    • Pregnant women

  • ALTERNATIVES TO WORSHIPS: We are currently looking into webcasting our worship. Due to our unstable internet connection at IHMS, this has been a challenge to do. But we will do our best to find alternatives. Please note that we will post on Sunday messages on our website and through podcasts on Sundays.

  • ALTERNATE MEETING PLACES: Should IHMS be closed to us or in the extreme case where public assembly is shut down for an interim period, the following steps will be taken as the situation calls for:

    • IHMS: If IHMS closes to us, we will meet at Central Park which is right adjacent to IHMS for a Park Day worship. We will continue to meet there until IHMS opens to us or until our building is completed, whichever should come first.

    • SMALL GROUPS: We could decide to meet in regional groups at people's homes. This could be a possible alternative.

    • WEBCAST: If all public meeting is prohibited, we will broadcast the messages via YouTube, Facebook, Zoom or other means.

  • COMMUNION: We are continuing with communion this season. But we are taking the following measures:

    • GLOVES: Ushers will be wearing plastic gloves to serve the unleavened bread.

    • BREAD/CRACKER: The individual will open their hand and the usher will drop the bread into the hand.

    • WINE/JUICE: The wine/juice will be placed on a chair alongside the usher. Each individual will take the wine/juice themselves from the chair.

  • COMMUNICATION: We will make sure to provide updates as situations change. We will use the following means to communicate to you:

    • Website (wspring.org)

    • Email (please make sure to update your info with us)

    • Facebook (through our FB group)

    • Twitter

    • Instagram

    • Phone or Text
